Visa & invitation letter

If your nationality requires a visa to enter Benin, the Organising Committee can issue an invitation letter to accompany your application file.

Mandatory notice

The invitation letter is intended to accompany, where necessary, a visa application file. It does not constitute a guarantee that a visa will be granted; that decision rests exclusively with the competent authorities.

Do I need a visa?

Entry conditions for Benin depend on your nationality, your travel document and the length of your stay. They may change without notice. The Organising Committee does not act in place of the authorities: always check with the diplomatic mission of Benin responsible for your place of residence.

Three possible situations

You are visa-exempt: nothing to do, your badge is enough.
You qualify for an electronic visa: the invitation letter is often useful but rarely required.
You need a consular visa: the invitation letter is generally requested in support of the file.

How to request the letter

The request is made only through the registration form, at the "Stay & visa" step, by answering "Yes" to the question about needing an invitation letter. Requests made through any other channel are not processed.

    At step 4 of the registration form. Three additional fields then appear.

    The Committee validates your registration

    The letter is drawn up only after your standing as a participant is validated.

    Your file enters the "Visa" queue

    You follow its progress from your participant area, with no need to chase it up.

    The letter is delivered and sent

    Email subject: "GLUB 2027 : Your invitation letter".

What the letter contains

Subject to legal and administrative validation, the letter states:

  • Identity As validated by the Committee
  • Nationality As declared at registration
  • Standing Participant / guest of the Convent
  • Official name of the event General Assembly / Convent GLUB 2027
  • Dates 22 to 27 February 2027
  • Place Cotonou, Republic of Benin
  • Official contact details Those of the Organising Committee
  • Number and date of issue Unique, verifiable by the Committee
  • Validation Signature, stamp or electronic validation

What the document looks like

This specimen is provided for guidance only. Only a letter issued by the Committee and bearing an issue number has the standing of an official document.

To the competent consular authorities,

The United Grand Lodge of Benin certifies that [Title] [SURNAME] [Given names], of [nationality] nationality, is invited to take part in the General Assembly / Convent GLUB 2027, to be held from 22 to 27 February 2027 in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

Participation in this event is free of charge. Travel, accommodation and subsistence costs remain the responsibility of the participant.

This letter is intended to accompany, where necessary, a visa application file. It does not constitute a guarantee that a visa will be granted; that decision rests exclusively with the competent authorities.

Timescales and good practice

Lodge your visa application as early as possible. Consular processing times vary considerably from country to country and lengthen as busy periods approach.

Check that the name on your registration matches your travel document exactly. A difference in spelling is the leading reason for a file being rejected.

Keep your letter number: it is what allows the Committee to retrieve the letter if an authority asks for confirmation.

  • The invitation letter is free, as is registration.
  • Nobody is mandated to sell it, speed it up or guarantee it.
  • No genuine letter promises that a visa will be granted.
